Leslie Simulation in Yamaha Montage M and MODX M – How to Activate the Better Feature
Yamaha has officially integrated and clearly communicated the Leslie simulation from the YC series into the Montage M and MODX M. Anyone who plays organ sounds knows why this is a real added value. A convincing Leslie effect makes the difference between a flat organ sound and one that works in a live context.
What many don't know, however, is that an older organ effect is active by default – not the new Leslie simulation. So if you just start playing, you won't get the best the instrument can offer. You have to activate it manually. No searching, no long pondering – but if you don't know that this step exists, you won't do it.
What's the catch?
You need to know two important limitations before you get started:
- The Leslie simulation is only available in Timbre 1. If you build multi-timbral setups, you have to plan for this from the outset.
- You only have one insertion effect instead of two. The Leslie simulation occupies one of the effect slots. One slot is eliminated.
This is not a showstopper – but it is a design decision by Yamaha that you need to be aware of so that you can build your patch cleanly.
