Replacing the storage battery on a Yamaha P50-m – a simple explanation

Speicherbatterie beim Yamaha P50-m wechseln – einfach erklärt

The Yamaha P50-m: A compact piano expander with great sound – but at some point the batteries will need to be changed.

📌 Advance notice

This guide is intended as a support and is based on my own experience. It is not an official Yamaha guide , and all work is carried out at your own risk .
💡 Important: Opening the package will void the warranty – although this is usually no longer an issue with the P50-m, as the device has been discontinued for some time.

🛠 What you need

  • A suitable screwdriver (please do not improvise – bits that are too small or incorrectly fitted will ruin screws!)

  • A new CR2032 button cell

  • A little patience and finesse

🔍 Step-by-step instructions

Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos when I opened it – but a reader kindly sent me one where you can clearly see the main points:

🔴 The battery is located in the red circle – that's the CR2032 that you need to replace.
🟡 The yellow markings indicate the screw positions that need to be loosened to open the case:

  1. Remove all screws on the underside

  2. Loosen the two screws to the left and right of the display.

  3. There are more screws on the back, above the connectors – these also need to be removed.

Once you've removed the cover, you can easily see the battery at the front edge. The battery is clipped onto the base, so replacing it is quite simple.

🔁 Assembly and testing

After the replacement, you simply reassemble the device.
✅ You don't need to reload or reconfigure anything – the P50-m will work just like before!

💬 Personal tip

It was easier than expected – provided you have some patience. If you're unsure, though, it's definitely worth consulting a professional.

If you've also done a similar conversion and perhaps managed to take better photos: feel free to send them to me , and I'll add them to this post for others!
