Yamaha MODX Installation/Mounting Instructions
This step-by-step guide explains how to safely load a purchased library onto your Yamaha MODX, MODX M, Montage, or Montage M and how to import it into the User area if needed. Please read it in full before you begin.
⚠️ 1. Create a backup
Before you start, back up your current settings and performances – this allows you to return to the original state at any time. You can find a video guide on how to create a backup on my YouTube channel.
Create a backup: [UTILITY] → Contents → Store/Save → Backup File.
2. Prepare the library
- Download the library: After purchase, you will receive a download link. Download the file (usually in .X8L or .X7L format). If the archive is compressed, extract it completely. You can download the file once; if you have any problems, please contact me.
- Format the USB flash drive: Format your USB flash drive on the MODX/Montage to ensure it is recognized correctly: [UTILITY] → Settings → Media → Format USB.
- Copy the file: Copy the library file(s) to the USB flash drive (do not rename them or create any additional folders).
3. Load the library
- Connect the USB flash drive: Insert the prepared USB flash drive into the USB port of the MODX/Montage.
- Load the library: Press [UTILITY], go to Contents → Load, select "Library" under Content Type, select the library file on your USB flash drive, and confirm with [ENTER].
- Use the performances: After loading, you will find the new sounds under Category Search → Library. There you can select them, use them in performances, and customize them to suit your needs.
4. Import the library (if memory is limited)
A MODX/Montage can store a maximum of eight libraries at the same time. If all eight slots are occupied, you must delete a library before installing a new one. If you need to free up space or permanently add specific performances to the User area, follow these steps:
- Import the library: [UTILITY] → Contents → Library Import.
- Select the source: Select the installed library and tap the folder containing the performances you want to transfer.
- Adjust the sorting: You can sort the list by name or date to make it easier to find the desired performances.
- Import to the User Bank: Select the desired performances and tap Import to User Bank. Important: Custom samples contained in a library remain write-protected as long as the performance is in the library. You can only edit these samples after importing them into the User Bank.
- Remove the library (optional): If you want to free up memory after importing or if all eight library slots are occupied, delete a library: [UTILITY] → Contents → Libraries, press and hold the corresponding library, and select Delete. The imported performances in the User area will be retained.
Tips & Notes
- Back up regularly: Always create a backup of your current data (Backup File) before loading or deleting libraries to prevent any data loss.
- Keep an eye on storage space: The internal library capacity is eight slots – delete unnecessary libraries or import individual performances into the User area if you need more space.
-
Understand the file formats:
- X8L/X7L – Library files for permanently installable libraries.
- X7U – User files for storing custom content (performances, voices, etc.).
